BUTCHERS HOOK CHARITY BIKE MEET

Now this was a very different event from what I imagined, but in a good way and it got me thinking, but first about the event.

A collaboration between The Butchers Hook a well established and great café, which is bike friendly near Heathfield, and Rolling Rides a group of riders who do lots of voluntary escort runs.

Unfortunately my health meant I couldn’t ride there, but despite the poor weather in the morning there was a great turn out of all ages.

Well organised with an overflow parking area and enthusiastic marshals.

Thankfully as weather dried up, although till cool there was plenty of room outside as well as inside.

Bike related Mental Health Motorcycles were there along with Docbike and Indian motorcycles

For the rest there were dancers, face painters, balloon modellers, a charity set of singers “vocalize” and a contestant from Britain’s got talent.

So much more  family event, and there were a lot of families there and a real mix of riders patiently queuing for drinks etc.

During the afternoon there were dancers (who must’ve been frozen) dancing to the likes of Gloria Estefan which is very different to most bike events.

But then looking around a very positive step was the amount of younger riders, male and female, especially those with L plates, and it made me think that we need this mix to carry biking on.

Not just lots of heavy rock music from bands many may not have known, ok so I’m not saying we need K Pop at events but its good to have that mix.

While there may not have been many custom or classic bikes there (although not classified as a show for such the weather may have kept some away) there was a great turn out for a day which defeated several other local events.

Well done to rolling rides and butchers hook on a fun event, I’m just sorry I couldn’t have stayed longer
